The design phase involving the development of the SecureMat® system into a commercial product that can be sold off the shelf has spawned some new terminology. PSI CEO Ian Bergman explained, “Instead of an on-ground sensor mat that can be placed beside fences to detect intruders entering a monitored area, what we now have is an ‘LED motion detector’ that can be used in factories and warehouses for both security and safety reasons.” “This is not only because a new product calls for new terminology. It is also because we have arrived at a more accurate understanding of what we’ve developed and where it fits within the suite of currently available electronic security products.” He described how the light bulb moment came. “Previously we
Leading electronic security system and product wholesaler, NESS Corporation, has agreed to become a distributor of PSI’s LED sensor mat product. The agreement follows three months of testing that demonstrated how well the sensor mat operates with NESS security panels. During the trial the sensor mat was connected to a NESS alarm panel and detected people walking on the mat with 100% reliability and zero false alarms. NESS National Products Manager Greg Kingsley has arranged for an LED sensor mat to be sent to each of the five NESS state branches in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth so that sales staff can familiarise themselves with the product.
Fledgling commercial partners Perimeter Security Industries Pty Ltd (PSI) and the General Mat Company Pty Ltd are in the process of setting up a showroom at Granville where they can demonstrate to security and safety solution seekers how a new sensor mat product works. The two companies signed a formal partnership agreement on 15 March 2015 to collaborate on the development of a manufacturing process for embedding PSI’s patented SecureMat® sensor system into one of the General Mat Company’s industrial floor mats. In January 2016 PSI provided two major security product suppliers – NESS Corporation and Hills Ltd – with samples of PSI’s new LED sensor mat industrial product for testing and assessment. The intention is to test whether the product meets the stringent standards for security products that these companies require. If all goes well, the new LED sensor mat product will be endorsed by these major stakeholders as being fully compatible with existing electronic security management systems, opening the door to future sales of the product through their sales networks. It is anticipated that this kind of high level industry endorsement will give security system installers and integrators confidence in the LED sensor mat for inclusion in security and safety solutions for their clients.
PSI has begun the process of developing the SecureMat® technology’s wireless and battery capabilities. Previously, PSI research engineers had taken the SecureMat® technology from a standalone system with its own controller box to a system that was capable of connecting to a standard alarm panel along with other security technologies. Now Dr David Austin, who is Managing Director of Madj Innovations and has a background in robotics, has been commissioned to implement a suite of wireless innovations and develop a battery-powered sensor that will enable the wireless mats to be fully standalone with no cabling required. The electronics board Dr Austin is holding in the photograph accompanying this story shows provision for small round batteries on one side and wireless capability on the other.
Perimeter Security Industries Pty Ltd (PSI) has been announced as a successful applicant for a $295,000 grant from the Australian Government under an Accelerating Commercialisation program delivered by AusIndustry. The purpose of the grant will be to assist PSI to address the challenges associated with commercialising its novel SecureMat® technology. Read media release here.
Perimeter Security Industries (PSI) and General Mat Company have now produced their first batch of 75 industrial sensor mats. It follows the successful collaboration between the two companies on a prototype industrial sensor mat that saw the development of a manufacturing process for embedding the SecureMat® sensor system into one of the General Mat Company’s mats. Two very different Australian companies have entered a collaborative agreement to develop an entirely new type of security product for factories and warehouses. On 16 March 2015 Ian Bergman, Chief Executive Officer of Canberra-based emerging technology firm Perimeter Security Industries (PSI), and Ross Calder, Managing Director of leading Sydney floor covering firm General Mat Company, signed a formal agreement to collaborate on the manufacturing process for embedding PSI’s SecureMat® technology into one of General Mat Company’s industrial floor mats.
