Patent granted to PSI
Thursday 31 March 2011

Perimeter Security Industries (PSI) has been granted a patent for its innovative new security product the SecureMat®, a sensor mat which is placed on the ground inside a perimeter fence to detect any intruder entering or crossing the monitored area.

PSI was established in early 2010 to consolidate and commercialise the SecureMat®, a new concept in perimeter security invented by Mr Dean Vey, PSI’s Chief Engineer. Having completed the main R&D phase, PSI is now ready to fully commercialise the technology.

The SecureMat® system comprises a sensor mat threaded with fibre-optic cable. The mat is placed on the ground inside a perimeter fence and, if the mat is disturbed by human footsteps alarms are activated and alert SMS messages are sent to a mobile phone. The fibre-optic cable and electronics used to process the information from the SecureMat® mean that false alarms are minimal, a problem which plagues other products of this kind.

Theft of materials and machinery from industrial sites cost builders and developers millions of dollars every year. The SecureMat® system is designed for use at large industrial sites where frequent vandalism and theft can be difficult to prevent, as well as protection of small sites such as sheds and shipping containers.

The granting of the patent also leaves the way open for global exploitation of the SecureMat® technology and international patents are envisaged.
