The LED Sensormat™ product brand created by PSI presents a solid platform for the company to pursue a wealth of further innovations.

Since the company’s inception in 2010, PSI has continuously engaged in research and development (R&D) to hone and extend the capacity of its patented SecureMat® technology.

Over many years the SecureMat® technology has been subjected to rigorous real-world testing in the field and in the laboratory to prove and develop its unique algorithms and detection capabilities.

What is SecureMat® technology?

R & D technology

SecureMat® technology is based on the concept of passing light from an LED to a microprocessor along a length of plastic optical fibre embedded inside a sensor mat. Any pressure on the mat disturbs the light and smart algorithms in the firmware determine, measure and analyse the nature of the disturbance.

Over many years the SecureMat® technology has been subjected to rigorous real-world testing in the field and laboratory to prove and develop its unique algorithms and detection capabilities.

R & D technology

This R&D activity culminating in the development of the LED Sensormat™ brand of products is based on two integral components:

  • software – all PSI’s knowledge regarding the algorithms, proprietary techniques and procedures underpinning the electronics are contained in our embedded analytics framework – essentially a large number of proprietary code blocks (software) and necessary software wrapping functions for various hardware implementations, and
  • hardware – all PSI’s knowledge regarding the electronics hardware for the embedded sensor and the mat are contained in the PSI suite of hardware techniques and components. This comprises microcontroller designs, development platforms, custom analogs, communications interfaces, power management, third-party interfaces, as well as mat structure, design and production methodologies.

Hot on the heels of the launch of PSI’s first two products, the Balance Mat was swiftly developed, tested and introduced to the market during the first half of 2017 as a balance measurement tool for healthcare professionals. For more information click here

Other LED Sensormat™ products

R & D dog

One of the most exciting things about the LED Sensormat™ is its adaptability. Now that the commercialisation of the first two LED Sensormat™ products – the High Alert Sensor Mat and the Safety Alert Sensor Mat for factories and warehouses – is well underway, PSI is planning to carry out more ongoing research and development. Subject to securing sufficient funding, the LED Sensormat™ can be adapted into a range of exciting new products based on its unique and proven detection, measurement and analytics capabilities.

We are yet to fully exploit the analytics the LED Sensormat™ has to offer, the different types of mat or matting that are possible and the ability of the product to be used outdoors.

For now, our R&D program is focused on developing indoor security, safety and analytical solutions for the industrial, aged care and healthcare sectors.

We are also developing the product sufficiently to meet the specifications and high level of performance required in smart homes and the Internet of Things.

Going global

R & D Going global

While initial sales and marketing efforts are focusing on Australia, PSI does hold United Kingdom, United States and South African patents as well as Australian. We plan to take the LED Sensormat™ into these other countries progressively, with the eventual aim of achieving a global market reach.
